UK Snooker Championship 2018
The 2018 UK Snooker Championship (27th November – 9th December) is the ninth ranking competition of a 20 tournament season. But, with a £850,000 ($1,555,000) prize-fund it is no run-of-the-mill tournament.
One of the sports ‘Triple Crown’ events – the others being the World Championship and the Masters – it is broadcast around the world on terrestrial TV, runs for almost two weeks and is a genuine snooker betting feast.
How to bet on UK Snooker Championship 2018
Snooker UK Championship betting is very straight forward. If you have never bet on Snooker before, think ‘Tennis’: two contestants, long matches and no prospect of a ‘draw’.
UK Championship snooker betting offers everything you can bet on and more. The tournament itself is a ‘best of eleven’ frame format in the early rounds so you can bet on individual players to simply win, win in a handicap market or by predicting the correct scoreline with the possible correct score betting markets being 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, 6-5 to either player.
But there are loads of additional snooker betting markets too such as:
- the player to win the first frame
- the player to score the highest break
- total points scored on individual frames
- a 147 maximum break being registered
And in-play bettors can even bet live on the outcome of the ongoing frame, forthcoming frames and even the colour of the first coloured ball potted!
UK Snooker Championship Betting Odds
There are 10 players who have won all three Triple Crown events at least once: Steve Davis, Terry Griffiths, Alex Higgins, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Australia’s Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy.
Six of these top snooker players are still playing the game and all six will be found at the head of the betting for the UK Snooker Championship. In fact Ronnie O’Sullivan is the favourite with bet365 odds at 4.00*, Mark Selby is 6.50 second best (with Ladbrokes) and, at 10 with Unibet, John Higgins is the third favourite.
As a six-time previous winner of this competition who has already won the Shanghai Masters this season, O’Sullivan deserves his mantle of favourite in this Betway sponsored event. And it must be pointed out the winner of this competition has never come from the outside the top-ten of the betting. It’s remarkable stuff considering the competition now features 128 players.
The closest we have ever come to an upset was in 2015 when Neil ‘The Melbourne Machine’ Robertson beat the lowly ranked Liang Wenbo 10-5 in the decider. Robertson has been out of sorts after winning the season opening tournament in Riga, Latvia and is 17.00 with Neds.
That puts him inside the top-ten of the betting along with Judd Trump (12 with bet365*), Mark Williams (15 with Topbetta), Barry Hawkins (19 Madbookie), Kyren Wilson (16 Betfair) and Shaun Murphy (29 with Ladbrokes). * Odds correct at the time of writing
UK Snooker Championship Free Bets
Most online sportsbooks give their new customers a free bet on settlement of their first bet. Others will make special free bet concessions for major sporting events such as the UK Snooker Championship.
Unibet, Topbetta, Neds and Pointsbet are amongst that number and a free snooker bet gives you a great opportunity to enjoy the action.
A free bet on an individual game may not yield a great dividend – especially a handicap bet where the firms are likely to be offering 5/6 about either player – but placing your snooker free bet on the outright market could give you a great dividend and a lot of entertainment.
With the Betway UK Snooker Championship being a 128-player field, the eventual competition victor will need to win seven consecutive matches.
UK Snooker Championship 2018 Live Streaming
If you are not sure where to find the UK Championship on your TV screen or with game times being unsuitable (often throughout the small hours) why not reach for your mobile device and watch the live UK snooker streaming available to Unibet and bet365 customers.
In addition to live pictures and commentary you can also see the latest snooker betting markets on the match and individual frames as they fluctuate ‘in play’. There’s also some great match-stat graphics which are helpful for making your betting decisions.
UK Snooker Championship Winner
Some betting firms have taken to offering odds on ‘price request’ outcomes. That’s could be very interesting on this event as the odds on a ‘first time’ winner will surely be quite big. Indeed the list of previous winners reads like a “who’s who” of the sport.
Another interesting angle would be the price on the winner of the UK Championship coming from China. 2009 UK Open winner Ding Junhui is the most successful player to come from China but a host of teenaged players are coming through the ranks and it only seems a matter of time before the country has a new champion.
