NBA Betting Odds: Your Complete Guide
The NBA season always provides plenty of excitement and none more so than last season which saw the Toronto Raptors become champions for the first time and perhaps reinvigorate a league getting tired of the Golden State Warriors domination. Unless you’re a GSW fan of course.
It made betting on the NBA incredibly excitement and that will continue over the coming seasons with many markets and odds to find great value on.
Here at Aussie Free Bet, we always pluck out the best NBA free bets for our punters and alongside them offer free NBA picks so you have the best chance of winning.
The markets we offer odds on varies, it very much depends on where the value is. Below you’ll find some insight into the more common markets we bring you and how you play them…
Moneyline betting is most definitely the most simple market to bet on the NBA with and a good place to start for anyone that is new to basketball betting.
You’ll find that all online betting sites will offer this market and it’s always one of the clearest displayed to enjoy. That’s because all you’re doing is betting on the winner of a basketball game.
For example, let’s say the LA Lakers were taking on the Miami Heat. If you were to place a Moneyline bet, this would just mean betting on which team you think will win.
So, if you were to bet on the Miami Heat, to receive a payout the Heat would have to win the game. It’s that simple.
It’s a market that can be played all season, from the regular right through to NBA Finals odds, making it one for the accumulator at all points in the year.
Total Or Over/Under
The Total, or Over/Under as it’s also commonly known, is another market popular with the likes of Betfair, Ladbrokes and Unibet and always a good market to use NBA free bets and combine with the Moneyline market.
The Total or Over/Under market is simple to understand and is a wager that is based upon the total number of points scored within a game.
This is in the format of over/under so you would bet on whether the total number of points scored is over or under a certain figure provided by the bookmaker.
For example, if you were to play this market in a game between the Heat and Lakers, a bookmaker may offer odds for Over/Under 180 points.
The 180 represents the total number of points scored by both the Lakers and Heat. In this case let’s say you wished to bet on the Over market. If the game was to finish 92-89, the total number of points scored would be 181, and therefore you would win. If the game was to finish 90-87, then the combined figure would be 187 and you would lose the bet.
The Pointspread market is a little similar to the Moneyline market and is essentially the next step for punters looking to find good value. It’s a good one to extend your odds as what this market does is also take into account the winning margin of the game.
For example, you may find odds on the Heat and Lakers laid out as follows:
LA Lakers (-6)
Miami Heat (+6)
In this case, the numbers represent the pointspread offered by the bookmaker. This means that the bookie is essentially giving one team a handicap and another an advantage.
So, if you were to bet on the Lakers, they would be given a six point handicap and therefore have to win by more than six points for your bet to win.
On the other hand, if you were to bet on the Heat, they would start with a six point advantage and if you backed them they would simply have to avoid defeat by six points or more for you to win.
If the Lakers were to win 95-90, and you had bet on them to win, then you would lose the bet as the winning margin is only five points. If you had bet on the Heat and it finished that scoreline, you would win as they did not lose by six or more points.
It’s a good market to play to boost your odds on playing the Moneyline market and always worth a free bet or two.
Futures markets are much broader than the very particular markets above and are called Futures as they’re bet over a longer period, in some cases an entire season.
They usually involve betting on the overall winner of a particular event or award. In the case of the NBA, this includes betting markets like:
- NBA Championship Odds
- NBA Eastern Conference Winner
- NBA Western Conference Winner
- NBA Regular Season Scoring Title
- NBA Regular Season Highest Points Average
- NBA Regular Season Highest Rebounds Average
- NBA Regular Season Highest Blocks Average
- NBA Regular Season Highest Assists Average
- NBA Regular Season Most Three Pointers Made
