World Women’s Volleyball Championship Betting Tips
At the time of writing, the FIVB Women’s World Championship is in full swing in Japan. We’ve already seen the competition cut down from the 24 nations who qualified for a place in the prestigious tournament to the 16 teams who made it through to the Second Round.
The task now is for the favourites in the World Women’s Volleyball Championship betting to ensure a safe passage to the Third Round. Only three will make it that far and keep their hopes of glory alive but who should you be thinking about backing?
We’ve tried to make things easier for you with our World Women’s Volleyball Championship betting tips and advice.
Serbia and USA Solidify their Position as Favourites
Along with the hosts, Japan, the USA were the only team who did not have to qualify for the FIVB Women’s World Championship. That’s by virtue of the fact that they are the defending champions thanks to their impressive performances four years ago in Italy.
Key players from that squad of 2014, including the Most Valuable player, Kim Hill, form part of a formidable USA team in Japan. They were faultless during the First Round, winning all five of their matches in Pool C for the loss of just five sets and the best Australian bookies believe that USA have a great chance of winning the title.
The USA trail Italy in the Pool F standings but both teams have won every match so far. The USA and Italy will surely both have qualified for the Third Round by the time they face off on October 11th but that will still be a fascinating match and a chance for both teams to hammer home their World Championship credentials.
It’s the USA who are getting most support in the betting though and you can still back them to win the tournament at a generous looking $3.85 with Unibet.
Serbia are the joint favourites with the USA to win the tournament outright. Their position at the head of the betting and their performances in Japan to date are the result of a lot of hard work by everybody involved in Serbian volleyball as the team only finished joint seventh in the standings four years ago.
Individually it’s hard to make the case that Serbia have the quality of the USA or even of some of the other teams being backed by punters – think Italy, China and Brazil – but their collective spirit has secured an incredible seven straight wins without the loss of a single set.
The momentum is very much behind Serbia at the moment and we think they’re going to be a major contender for the rest of the tournament.
They just fell short of winning gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics though and we think they may suffer the same fate in Japan so rather than betting on Serbia to win the World Women’s Volleyball Championship, take the odds of $2.00 that Unibet are quoting on them finishing in the top two.
Who Else will Make up the Final Six?
Serbia and the USA are almost certain to be joined by both Italy and China in the Third Round. We’ve already mentioned Italy’s impressive record in the tournament so far and they are the only side to get the better of China in their first seven matches.
China managed to bounce back from that defeat and should have little trouble navigating a route to the Third Round.
That leaves two available spots in Pool E. The way results have gone it would be a major surprise if the Netherlands threw away their strong position while the support of the home fans could well be enough for Japan to keep their hopes of glory alive.
