The Adelaide 36ers will be embracing a tough test against the Tigers when they visit Melbourne this afternoon, but the home side will want some home court revenge for the reverse they suffered in Adelaide.
Despite the scoring being led by Worthington with 28 and Goulding with 23 in that one, the Tigers still lost by a score of 90-87.
The Tigers open up as a 3 point home favorite on the spread with bookmakers Pinnacle.
The third placed Tigers can jump up and over the 36ers in to second place in the NBL ladder with a win, but both sides know they’ll be tested with the international quality on the floor.
The two sides have as many as 11 Australian Internationals amongst the ranks including current rising stars Goulding and Johnson who you can expect to feature heavily in scoring for their respective teams in this one.
The 76ers are being given what seems like a seriously tough scheduling spot with a 3000km journey awaiting them between games here. The 36ers were absolutely blownout 85-61 to the NBL Ladder topping Perth Wildcats.
Night two of their back to back awaits in Melbourne, and although the momentum of back to backs can you carry you through, there’s not much momentum coming out of 22 and 24 point losses this week.
The 36ers really brought their best half-court game when the sides last met, and that’s the least they’ll need this time. The 36ers are going to have to play some tough defense and get behind the ball on transition defense if they want to keep the Tigers to a reachable total.
Statistically, 36ers have a stellar 10-1 record when holding their opponents to 90 or fewer points, and that was reflected in Week 5’90-87 victory over the Tigers.
The Tigers play some of the toughest defense in the league though and they own an impressive 8-3 record when holding opposing teams to 80 points or less, whilst no side has held teams below 80 less than the 36ers.
The 36ers have made their way up the ladder largely on home performances – despite struggling against most of the leagues better sides – and their road performances have been far too inconsistent to want to back them.
Tired legs, no momentum and a considerable amount of self doubt could be on show as they continue their slide, so we’re going to back the Tigers on the spread.
