Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne Victory Betting Tips – 8th April 2017
What a few weeks it’s been for Western Sydney Wanderers. Two months ago, it looked as though Tony Popovic’s side were set to miss out on a place in the finals, but with two games to go there’s still a chance they could finish third.
On Saturday, Wanderers take on Melbourne Victory at ANZ Stadium. While the home side are desperate to pick up the points required to claim third spot for their own, Victory need just a solitary point to ensure they finish second.
Victory went through the majority of the season in touching distance of Sydney FC but they’ve fallen away quite dramatically in the closing stages.
Kevin Muscat’s team go into Saturday’s game 17 points shy of the tally set by the runaway A-League leaders. That poses a mental challenge as much as anything as Victory first have to genuinely believe in their ability if they are to have any chance of Grand Final glory.
Belief is only now going to come for Victory with a couple of wins to close out the regular season. Muscat has seen his players lose three of their last four matches, a run of form that he must arrest immediately.
Unfortunately for Muscat and all Melbourne Victory fans, it’s hard to see them getting the three points they crave at ANZ Stadium.
After playing so well for such a significant part of the season, Melbourne Victory’s 3-0 home defeat against Wellington Phoenix was especially worrying for their fans.
When you take their stats across the season, Victory rank second in terms of goals scored and conceded and their results both home and away, but the nature of the Finals Series means that what’s gone before doesn’t matter.
It’s all about the future at this part of the season and the danger is that missing out on the Premiers Plate has dealt a serious blow to Victory. There’s also the fear that with just a point required, motivation will be low which in turn could lead to yet another morale sapping defeat.
If Western Sydney are able to begin Saturday’s game at a high tempo, there’s a chance they could grab an early goal and then go on to dominate proceedings.
If you think that the home side can rub salt in the wounds of the visitors, it may well be worth having a bet on Wanderers scoring a goal in both halves at $2.88 with Sportsbet.
We’re expecting Wanderers to try to put on a show early on for their fans but we’re not ruling out Melbourne Victory popping up with a goal of their own in the opening 45 minutes. That makes a bet on over 1.5 first half goals look too big to ignore at $2.38 with Bet365.
