Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne City Betting Tips – 24th March 2017

This is a strange part of the A-League season. For so long, teams have been jostling for position in the ladder to get themselves a spot in the Finals Series but it’s now become pretty clear which six sides will make it through.

So, head coaches and managers have a job on their hands to make sure their players remain motivated. Yes, the biggest matches are in the future but as we’ve seen before, arriving at the Finals in good form can be vitally important.

Remaining in good form is the primary concern for both Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City ahead of their match on Friday.

Wanderers’ win over Wellington Phoenix last time out was not just the first time they’ve won at Spotless Stadium this season but it gave them a five point cushion in sixth place. With four matches to go, it is going to take a major collapse for Tony Popovic’s men to miss out on a place in the Finals but the squad have made it clear that they’re remaining focussed.

“We are not complacent at all,” Kearyn Baccus said this week. “We are still working hard … we just have to take one game at a time and things will happen for us.”

Baccus and the rest of the squad will certainly have to put the work in against Melbourne City.

City finally clicked into gear last weekend, thrashing Newcastle Jets 4-0. For once, Michael Valkanis’ men kept their foot on the gas after taking a lead leaving fans and pundits to wonder why they’ve not been able to hit such heights before.

City have some of the best players in the A-League and if they manage to kick on after the Jets game they’ll pose a real threat in the Finals. They’re not going to catch city rivals Melbourne Victory in second place but Valkanis will be imploring his players to at least guarantee a home elimination final against the sixth placed team.

There’s a real chance that these two could come up against each other in the Finals Series. That makes Friday’s game a great scouting mission and a chance to inflict damage on a potential rival.

Given that the Wanderers have been poor at home this season and that Melbourne City seem to have found their best stuff at the right time, Valkanis’ team could be about to send out a message that they mean business in the Finals.

Western Sydney Wanderers are the bookmakers’ favourites for the match but you’ve got to think that with City’s quality, they look the value option at odds of $2.85.

Melbourne City fans will hope that the attacking football they displayed against the Jets is a sign of things to come. When they hit top gear, City are a very difficult side to stop and they should be able to score a couple of goals at Spotless Stadium.

Wanderers too, should find a goal or two so a bet on over 2.5 goals is a solid option at $1.64 with Unibet.

If you think that City can really pull away and produce another big result, head over to the Correct Score market. At odds of $21.00 with Bet365, the 1-3 score line looks well worth a punt.
