There is a double header of action in the A-League on Saturday which begins with Wellington Phoenix’s trip to the Parramatta Stadium to take on Western Sydney Wanderers. This is a match-up between two in form sides who are improving all the time so it could be a belter of a game.
Tony Popovic came into the season with a plan to get the Wanderers playing free flowing, attractive football. It did not start well. Without a win in three games, there were more than a few question marks surround Western Sydney in the early part of the season. However, something has just clicked for the Red and Black. The passing is crisp and quick, the movement is cultured and the goals have begun to flow. Popovic made many changes to his squad over the break and he has some good attacking players to choose from but the main men in this team are Dario Vidosic and Mitch Nichols. Both are creative players who pull the strings and make things happen in the final third. If Phoenix is to have a shot on Saturday it is those two who have to be stopped.
The bookies don’t give Phoenix much of a chance of winning on the road. Ernie Merrick’s side is the underdog in the betting at 4.75 with Bet365 with the home side ranked a 1.8 shot with William Hill. However, it is unlikely to be as one sided as that suggests. Phoenix has a very tough and physical defence which will relish the battle. From that solid defensive platform the Kiwis have shown a good ability to build attacks and score plenty of goals.
With an away side looking to play on the counter and score goals and a home side who are on course to win four games on the bounce, we should really be expecting plenty of goals. Although a win would be a huge result for Phoenix, the team has more of a threat than the odds suggest so make sure to have a bet on both teams to score at odds of 1.75 with BetVictor. Neither team can afford to sit back so that looks a price worth taking.
In these sort of games it is always worth having a look at the over/under goals markets. We’re expecting the sides to come out and try to take the game to the opposition so maybe the odds of 1.8 that Bet365 are offering on over 2.5 goals isn’t quite big enough. This match could end up just about any score given the attacking talent on show and the form of the teams so head to Unibet who are offering 3.05 on there being at least four goals.
Of all the good news that has come Tony Popovic’s way of late he must have been particularly happy that big signing Federico Piovaccari scored his first goals for the Wanderers last week. The Italian needs to hit a good run of form to stop murmurs of his signing being a mistake and he’ll be more than motivated to score in a match full of goals. William Hill are offering good odds of 2.5 that Piovaccari scores at any time during the match so get on board.
