Tottenham v Chelsea – Premier League Betting Offers and Tips

Chelsea and Tottenham finished first and second respectively in the Premier League last season and looked to both have very winnable first games of the new campaign.

Tottenham made the most of a moment of madness from Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey to beat the Magpies 2-0 at St James’ Park but Chelsea were on the end of one of the biggest upsets in the Premier League for a while when they lost 3-2 at home to Burnley.

The Blues also had two players sent off to further weaken a squad already weakened by sales and injuries ahead of their London derby with Spurs at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham v Chelsea Betting Analysis

The combination of Tottenham’s impressive display in the first game of the season and Chelsea’s woeful performance against Burnley means that Spurs are the favourites for Sunday’s game.

There is little doubt that the Spurs team which starts at Wembley will be stronger that Chelsea’s on paper. But, soccer isn’t played on paper. Unfortunately for Spurs, half of their matches this season will be played at Wembley.

Tottenham’s record at the national stadium is very poor, including their defeat in the FA Cup semi-final when they last faced Chelsea.

The Blues, who have won three of their last six matches against Tottenham, look short of the quality and confidence to leave Wembley with all three points on Sunday. But, the draw looks very well priced in what should be a tight game at odds of $3.60 with Centrebet.

If you’re looking for a bigger return from your bet on a draw, it could well be worth heading to the correct score market. We think that the most likely score line is 1-1 and you can back that at $7.50 with William Hill.

It could also be worth betting on under 2.5 goals at a best price of $2.02 with Bet365.

To try and put their Wembley hoodoo behind them, Tottenham could well try and get off to a fast start on Sunday. If they are to start well and take the lead, it’s likely to be Dele Alli who puts the ball in the back of the net.

Harry Kane is their number one goal threat but he’s yet to score a Premier League goal in August while Alli’s performance against Newcastle makes it clear that he’s in tip top form at this early stage.

So, back Alli to score first which is $7 with Bet365.

Tottenham v Chelsea Top Betting Tips

Match result draw at $3.60 with Centrebet

1-1 correct score at $7.50 with William Hill

Under 2.5 goals at $2.02 with Bet365

Dele Alli to score first at $7 with Bet365

Key Battles

Chelsea are going to need to be a whole lot better against Tottenham than they were against Burnley. Antonio Conte watched on with horror at his team’s defensive display against the Clarets and he’ll be working very hard with his starting XI so that they can cope with the movement of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Things weren’t a whole lot better for Chelsea up front against Burnley until Alvaro Morata was introduced into the fold.

The Spaniard’s movement was 10 times better than Michy Batshuayi and he’s now going to be the main man upfront for Chelsea given that Diego Costa has no desire to return to England any time soon.

The Spurs defence must remain vigilant or Morata will pounce while their young full backs will surely be in for a tough time against Chelsea’s quality players out wide.

Match Stats

  • Chelsea have won three and lost just one of their last six games against Tottenham
  • Tottenham have won their last 14 home Premier League games but none of them were played at Wembley Stadium
  • Spurs will be playing all their home games at Wembley this season while work is completed on their new home around the old stadium at White Hart Lane
  • Chelsea won more Premier League games last season than any other team before but could win just one away game against the league’s other top six teams
