Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets Predictions

Published: 05.11.2018

The Newcastle Jets play host to Sydney FC at the McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday evening, in a clash between the teams that finished second and first respectively in the table at the end of regular season in the last campaign.

It’s been a less convincing season this time round for the Jets, with just a solitary point to show from their opening three matches to leave them propping up the table.

Their last game ended in a 1-0 loss at home to Melbourne Victory, although there were positives to take from the game, particularly in the opening half-hour when Ernie Merrick’s men produced some high quality soccer.

Despite a change of head coach and the loss of several key players in the offseason, the Sky Blues have started in commanding fashion and top the table with seven points from three games.

Sydney showed great resilience in immediately bouncing back from their FFA Cup Final defeat against Adelaide United with a 3-0 win at Melbourne City on Friday evening.

The win included two goals from Adam Le Fondre, taking his tally for the season in the A-League to four already since joining the club from Bolton Wanderers in the English Championship.

When the Jets met the Sky Blues last season it was honours even in the three encounters, with a 2-1 victory for each on home soil and a 2-2 draw at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium sandwiched in between.
