Manchester City vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Published: 06.11.2018

Manchester City will be looking to tighten its grip on top spot in the English Premier League when it faces arch-rivals Manchester United in the Manchester Derby on Remembrance Sunday.

City did it all too easily in a 6-1 win over Southampton last weekend to move to a near-perfect 9 wins and 2 draws from their 11 matches. They’ve scored 33 goals this season and conceded only 4. For United, Marcus Rashford’s 92nd minute winner against Bournemouth gave the Red Devils their second win in a row and took more pressure off embattled manager Jose Mourinho. United now sit 7th on the table with 20 points.

As if this rivalry wasn’t intense enough already, Bernardo Silva added fuel to the fire several weeks ago when he excluded United from a list of clubs he said could challenge City for the title.

Silva named Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham as potential challengers but ignored City’s cross-town rivals. Given the game falls on Remembrance Sunday (which is a bigger deal in England than it is in Australia), it will also be interesting to see whether the home crowd reacts to United midfielder Nemanja Matic’s decision not to wear the poppy.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Matic explained that the poppy reminded him of the bombing of his native Serbia in 1999.

I recognise fully why people wear poppies, I totally respect everyone’s right to do so and I have total sympathy for anyone who has lost loved ones due to conflict. However, for me it is only a reminder of an attack that I felt personally as a young, frightened 12-year old boy living in Vrelo, as my country was devastated by the bombing of Serbia in 1999. Whilst I have done so previously, on reflection I now don't feel it is right for me to wear the poppy on my shirt. I do not want to undermine the poppy as a symbol of pride within Britain or offend anyone, however, we are all a product of our own upbringing and this is a personal choice for the reasons outlined. I hope everyone understands my reasons now that I have explained them and I can concentrate on helping the team in the games that lie ahead.

Chelsea vs Everton Predictions

Also on Sunday, Chelsea face a test to hold on to second place when they host 9th-placed Everton. Liverpool vs Fulham Predictions

Third-placed Liverpool will be looking to recover from the disappointment of their draw with Arsenal last weekend when they play bottom-placed Fulham on Sunday. The Reds are still unbeaten in 2017-18 and the question in this match isn’t whether they’ll win but by how much.
