Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar A-League Betting Guide

The game of the week in the Hyundai A-League comes as Brisbane Roar visit Perth Glory on Friday evening. Perth realistically don’t look like a title contender, even if they were to overthrow Brisbane in this one, but with the league leaders already  4 points out in-front and looking to protect their game in-hand, every game takes on more importance now. The Glory are capable of providing a tough test on their own patch.

Brisbane are far from shy when it comes to sticking the ball in to the net – having netted 17 times in their previous 8 outings overall – and also 16 times in their 8 away trips.

Perth have had their moments against weaker teams, seeing off Phoenix 4-2 and the Heart 3-0, but their results have been largely down to solid defensive showings, having taken 1-0, 1-0 and 0-0 results at home so far this season.

The motivation for Brisbane is bouncing back from what feels like a rare home loss. They were downed 2-1 by Adelaide, and they’ll be keen to bounce back against what’s – on paper at least – a weaker side than themselves.

Under interim coach Kenny Lowe, the Glory are refusing to lay down and be beaten. Back to back wins with clean sheets (3-0, 1-0) show real signs of improvement.

Lowe will be without several key players as they prepare for a tough test on Friday evening, but mentally you’d expect those injuries to be overlooked for the return of William Gallas. The experience of the veteran French man can certainly help compound their turn around in form.

Gallas has only played two games since joining on the 22nd October, but it goes without saying he’ll be a leader for the vast amounts of youth amongst the squad, and he should look a cut above the rest, even at 36.

The turn of form comes at the perfect time for Perth, as it’s going to make the return of their key players a lot more comfortable, and it should allow them to settle straight back in and focus on their own game. Shane Smeltz came off the bench to score a late 3 minute brace against Melbourne Heart last time out, and although he may not start, it seems certain he’ll at least see more minutes this week.

Another aspect to consider is the home advantage given by the tough travel schedule whenever you go to play in Perth. With their form on the up, it’s something they should be able to use to their advantage.

It doesn’t seem as black and white as the league leaders leaving here with three points for more, but Brisbane do have a lot more quality in midfield that will create chances, so it’s tough to back the home side either.

Brisbane have yet to draw in their 14 A-League outings, so that’s my prediction here. Both sides are capable of goals and we should see a cracker. 2-2 jumps out at me and so does the draw as a match prediction.

If you have betting options available to you, consider backing the home side (Perth Glory) on the +0.50 Asian Handicap.
