Newcastle Jets v Western Sydney Wanderers Betting Tips – 1st April 2017

A few short weeks ago, there were some very positive noises coming out of the Newcastle Jets camp. Everybody at the club was clear that they needed a big upturn in form to have any chance of making the Finals Series but there was a real feeling that they were capable of pulling it off.

It turns out they weren’t.

The Jets have lost their last two matches, conceding nine goals and scoring none in the process. That’s just the most recent end of a run of form in which Mark Jones’ men have secured only two points out of a possible 21.

With three games left of the home-and-away season, the Jets need snookers to make it into the top six and will in all likelihood see their season effectively end this weekend. Still, there is professional pride to play for and the players all want to give the fans something positive to take into the post-season.

Whereas the Jets are feeling a little sorry for themselves, Saturday’s visitors to McDonald Jones Stadium, Western Sydney Wanderers, are very happy with their current form.

Wanderers were under pressure from the teams directly below them in the A-League table but a draw and two wins from their last three games has solidified their position in the top six.

Tony Popovic has credited his players and their good defensive work with the upturn in the team’s fortunes. Wanderers can almost taste the play-offs but the work is by no means over yet. They’ve still got to hold off the challenge of Wellington Phoenix and, in that regard, three points would be a huge result on Saturday.

The bookies have Popovic’s men as the favourites for the game but at a best price of $2.23 with Unibet, they’re not being painted as certainties for the win. Optimistic Newcastle Jets fans can back their side returning to form at $3.10 with Bet365 but we think that price on Western Sydney Wanderers has to be considered good value.

Newcastle Jets have been goal shy in recent weeks but they will be desperate to give their fans something to cheer about in the final home game of a pretty tough season.

We don’t think the Jets have enough about them to avoid defeat but we certainly think they’ll be able to make life difficult for Wanderers by getting on the scoresheet.

Like us, the bookies are expecting goals but we still think it’s worth backing over 2.5 goals at a best price of $1.57 with Sportsbet.

For those of you looking for a longer odds bet for Saturday’s match, the Correct Score market always has some interesting options at tasty prices.

Given that we think the Jets are going to get on the scoresheet but still lose, the 1-3 selection looks like a good price at $16 with Unibet. That’s the score by which Western Sydney Wanderers have won their last two games and they could well triumph 3-1 for the third time in a row.
