Melbourne City v Sydney FC Betting Tips – 24th February 2017
With only seven rounds of fixtures left in the regular A-League season the pressure is really growing for the teams still battling it out for a spot in the Finals Series.
While there is still a fight for some sides to book a place in the top six, Sydney FC are much more concerned with what’s going on at the very top of the table. Graham Arnold’s men are in danger of running away with the Premiership and it’s going to take a huge collapse for them to throw away their eight point lead.
That’s not to say that there is no potential for a dramatic late shift at the top. The Sky Blues have some tough games still to play including their trip to take on Melbourne City on Friday night.
City currently find themselves in third position in the A-League ladder with a healthy nine point cushion between them and seventh placed Newcastle Jets. There is little chance of Michael Valkanis and his players missing out on a Finals Series berth but they’ll be wondering how well their campaign could have gone were it not for their mid-season slump.
Last weekend’s thumping 5-1 win over Wellington Phoenix was just City’s third win in 12 games. Simply put, they dropped far too many points after a solid start to the campaign and now face a tougher route through to the Grand Final than they otherwise would have had.
The Sky Blues’ first loss came last time out in the derby against Western Sydney Wanderers. Although there is little doubt that Arnold’s men are the best side in the A-League, there is a danger that their motivation levels will have taken a big hit.
The players now know that they’re not going to finish the season unbeaten and, with no chance of them missing out on the Finals Series, Arnold has to ensure that his players remain focussed or else they could go into the most important part of the season in poor form.
With Melbourne City seemingly on the up and looking to send out a message, the home side could grab a big win on Friday night at best odds of $2.75 with Bet365.
You have to go back to the 6th of January for the last time that Melbourne City kept a clean sheet in the A-League. That lack of defensive solidity has cost them this season and although they have enough about them to beat Sydney FC, it’s tough to see the away side failing to score.
That makes a bet on both teams to score look a solid option at $1.62 with Bet365.
You can combine the two previous betting recommendations for a bigger win by heading to the Correct Score market. This should be a close run thing which we believe the home side will win, sox bet on the 2-1 score line at $10.50 with Unibet.
