Melbourne City v Perth Glory Betting Tips– 22nd April 2017

Published: 20.04.2017

Melbourne City are a club with very big ambitions. Not only do they have designs on dominating the A-League, they want to be the best team in the AFC.

Given the number of positives the club has going for it in terms of finances, scouting and networking with other clubs around the world, it’s fair to say that reality has not yet caught up with expectations.

City had the chance to put themselves in the driving seat for a place in the AFC Champions League when they took on Perth Glory in the final game of the regular season but Michael Valkanis’ men blew it spectacularly.

Melbourne City went down 5-4 to Glory and must now rely on a massive change in fortunes to make it all the way to the Grand Final if they are to avoid putting their plans for Asian soccer domination on hold for at least another year.

The first step on City’s possible route to the Grand Final is a rematch against Perth Glory.

Melbourne City players have come out fighting in the press in the build up to their Elimination Final on Saturday with Tim Cahill especially forthright in talking his team’s chances up.

City do have home advantage and a chance at immediate revenge but Perth Glory are very much the side in form.

Whereas Valkanis’ men lost three of their last four, Glory turned a four game winless streak around with big victories in their last two outings of the regular season.

Before that thrilling 5-4 victory over Saturday’s opponents, Glory turned in an equally impressive win over Brisbane Roar.

Head coach, Kenny Lowe, can take heart from his players hitting form at just the right time and also from Glory’s three league meetings with Melbourne City.

Glory managed two wins and a draw from those encounters and there is nothing to suggest that they cannot keep that unbeaten form going in their biggest meeting of all.

Melbourne City do, however, remain the favourites and they will take some beating so rather than betting on Perth Glory to win in the match odds market, take the slightly safer option of backing them to qualify at $2.60 with Unibet.

When you look at the three prior matches between these two it’s not necessarily the results that immediately stand out. It’s the sheer number of goals scored.

Last week’s nine goal thriller was the highest scoring of the lot but that score line didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Glory won the first match 3-2 in October before the two played out a 3-3 draw just after Christmas.

Much as we’re not convinced that Melbourne City will suddenly work out how to beat Perth Glory, we cannot see this Elimination Final being anything other than a high octane, high scoring affair.

So, make sure that you have a bet on over 3.5 goals which is available at a very generous $2.11 with Sportsbet.

If you’re looking for a chance at winning big from this game, it may well be worth heading to the correct score market and betting on another high scoring match in which the teams cannot be separated.

You can get $30 with Bet365 on the 3-3 score line which has got to be worth a small stakes bet.
