Chelsea v Southampton Betting Tips

Published: 18.04.2018

In a season of great disappointment, last weekend was especially tough for Southampton fans to take.

It all started well as the Saints took at 2-0 lead against Chelsea in the weekend’s first EPL match. It was all downhill from there though.

Southampton let their guard down for a split second to allow Chelsea back into the game. The Blues went on to capitalise on their opponents’ lack of belief to win the game 3-2 before almost every result that could go against Southampton did go against them.

The upshot of the weekend is that Southampton are odds-on to be relegated down to the Championship. Mark Hughes is giving everything he has to avoid that fate but this weekend he has to deal with the distraction of an FA Cup semi-final.

As fate would have it, Hughes has to prepare his team for another meeting with Chelsea who are out to avenge their FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal last May.

Chelsea to Remain in Control

Antonio Conte was happy enough with his players’ character at St Mary’s. Like any manager though, he’d have preferred them not have got into the mess in the first place.

We think that Sunday’s game will produce the same result – a Chelsea win – but don’t think they’ll have to work quite so hard for it.

With their chances of a top four finish all but extinguished, the FA Cup is all that Chelsea have to play for until the end of the season. Like Southampton, the Blues have a Premier League match on Thursday evening but Conte has the liberty of being able to rest his key players for the semi-final.

Hughes, on the other hand, simply must prioritise Southampton’s fight against the drop over everything else.

It remains to be seen how strong a team Hughes will play at Wembley but you can be sure he’ll throw all of his assets at Thursday’s match against Leicester. Chelsea’s added experience at Wembley and on big stages is another positive for Conte’s men so make sure to back them to win at $1.50 with Centrebet.

The Chelsea players understand that Conte’s time at the club is more than likely coming to an end. They may not be playing for their manager any more but every footballer wants to win trophies and many of the Chelsea squad want to finish the season strongly to boost their chances of playing at the World Cup.

We think the Blues will be able to control the game from start to finish and therefore recommend taking the $2.20 that Bet365 are quoting on the Chelsea/Chelsea selection in their half time/full time market.

A bet on Chelsea keeping a clean sheet is also tempting at $1.99 with Palmerbet.

Hazard to Relish the Wembley Stage

Eden Hazard is one of those Chelsea players with an eye very firmly on the World Cup and even beyond.

He may well be one of the best attacking midfielders in the world but he has a huge amount of competition with Belgium and is also looking to attract the attention of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Hazard stuck with Chelsea when they last missed out on the Champions League but he sees his future playing at the very top level and could well leave Stamford Bridge in the summer. In order for a big money move to materialise, Hazard must turn it on now and throughout the World Cup.

We think he’ll have little trouble finding his best stuff against Southampton at Wembley and recommend backing him to score first at $5.20 with Unibet.
