We’ve got more A-League action to enjoy on Sunday but the two teams competing have had very little to enjoy for themselves over this new season. Perth Glory travel to play the only side below them in the A-League ladder, Adelaide United. If life wasn’t already uncomfortable enough for these two the weather is going to play a huge part with temperatures way into the 30s which is sure to have a major impact on the match.
It is strange for A-League fans to see Adelaide United and Perth Glory battling it out at the foot of the table. These are two sides who have had their fair share of success domestically and they actually played each other in the final of the FFA Cup last year. United won that match to lift the FFA trophy for the first time but it was Glory who had a shot at the final once again this year. Unfortunately for the club celebrating its 20th anniversary this season, the Purple Rain once again had to settle on being runners up.
Glory’s cup run was supposed to propel them on to a decent season but the only win that Kenny Lowe’s side have managed in the league actually came against Adelaide United when the pair met five weeks ago. Glory’s fall from grace has been spectacular. From ladder toppers for a large part of last season to wooden spoon contenders this, the club has failed horribly to overcome the punishments handed to them for salary cap violations. The bookies don’t think that it is going to get any better for the Purple Rain this week either making them the long shots with BetVictor going as big as 4.8 about their chances.
Adelaide United are on an even worse run of form than Glory. Manager Guillermo Amor continues to have the pressure piled on his shoulders now that his team have gone eight games without a single win. Three paltry draws is all that United have managed and although they are the 1.73 favourites with Boylesports for the win, the startling lack of firepower available to Amor leads us to conclude that Sunday’s game will end in a draw which is available at a top price of 4.0 with BetVictor.
We’ve spoken about the lack of goals that United have managed to score this season but they’ve actually scored the same number of goals as Perth Glory. Glory’s defence has fared better to the tune of four goals but the lack of striking options is an issue that is shared by both teams. With the sun blazing down on Coopers Stadium moving the ball around at pace is going to be very difficult. Couple that with the pressure heaped on both teams to win this game and you’ve got a recipe for a poor game of football. The bookies are mixed on their reading of how many goals are going to be scored which we can capitalise on by taking the 2.15 that BetVictor are offering on under 2.5 goals.
