Sailing - Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race Betting Tips and predictions
Battle of Two Aussie Sailing Giants
Comanche won the 2017 Sydney to Hobart in a record time of 1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes, and 24 seconds, beating Perpetual Loyal’s record from the previous year by 4 hours and 15 minutes. Seven-time winner Wild Oats XI crossed the line first in 1 day, 8 hours, 48 minutes, and 50 seconds, but was slapped with a one-hour penalty for its involvement in a near-miss collision in Sydney Harbour.
Wild Oats remains the greatest performer in Sydney to Hobart history and is still the only boat in the modern era to have claimed the treble of race record, line, and handicap honours (in 2005 and again in 2012).
Sydney to Hobart Betting Markets
In the line honours market, bet365 has Comanche as 2.00 favourite ahead of Wild Oats 3.00, while Black Jack leads the rest of the field at 6.50. Unibet is offering head-to-head betting between a host of pairs, including Comanche, 1.55 vs Wild Oats, 2.35, and Wild Oats XI, 1.45 vs Black Jack, 2.65. It’s also offering 1.70 on any boat other than Comanche winning line honours.
Some of the best betting action can be found in the handicap and “first out of the heads” markets. Neds has Ichiban as a 3.25 favourite to defend its handicap title from last year, with dozens of other boats in the market including Privateer and Teasing Machine, both 9.00. According to Neds, five boats are a chance to be first out of Sydney Heads: Comanche, 2.75, Black Jack, 3.25, Wild Oats XI 3.25, Infotrack, 8.00, and Scallywag, 12.00.
