Round 21 will conclude on Monday night, as the Wests Tigers will host Melbourne Storm. The Storm are the bookmakers clear favourites with a best price of 1.40 at Sportingbet, whilst outsiders and hosts Tigers are as high as 3.50 with Ladbrokes.
Just two points currently separate the eight placed Storm from the 12th placed Tigers, but recent form has been differing to say the least. Whilst the Tigers have lost three of their last four, the Storm have picked back up with back to back wins.
Emphatic wins against the struggling Raiders and a Broncos side who Melbourne have now leapfrogged is sure to have raised the morale of the group, and the same group is expected to line-up again on Monday.
The same can’t be said for the Tigers, however. With performances remaining inconsistent and recent form having seen them lose two of three, they also have several selection concerns ahead of Monday night’s match.
Half back Luke Broom isn’t expected to start due to the severity of his ankle injury, whilst skip Robbie Farah didn’t even report for training on Wednesday. Reportedly, Farah has even been quoted as saying Potter ‘can’t coach’. Whilst that has yet to be proven, it’s sure to have furthered the crisis surroundings Farah and head coach Potter.
The Storm are currently -8 favourites on the bookmakers handicap, but given the different directions the sides are heading in, and the thrashings the in-form Storm have been handing out, a double digit win wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
If Farah doesn’t have his head on the game then things aren’t going to go well for the Tigers. If the Captain doesn’t lead by example, why should anyone else bother. The Tigers already have a hefty and still growing injury list, and if they fall behind earlier (likely) then things will get messy.
The Storm are only favoured by 8, but in my opinion it should be at the least double digits (10) and we’ll see the difference in class show on the pitch this Monday.
