NRL Round 8 Betting Tips – 22nd April 2017

Published: 20.04.2017
Just like that, we’ve made it to Round 8 of the NRL season. It seems as though it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were all getting excited about the new campaign getting underway and the ladder has already taken shape.

With some big games in prospect this weekend, we’ve sifted through the action to provide you with you with three betting tips we think can secure some tasty profit from the bookies.

Parramatta Eels v Penrith Panthers

ANZ Stadium is the venue for an interesting looking match between Parramatta Eels and Penrith Panthers. To say that both teams are keen to pick up a win is an understatement so expect a fair amount of desperation if the score is tight come the closing stages.

Penrith go into Saturday’s match as the bookies’ favourites but their recent form is anything but encouraging. It’s now three defeats in a row for the Panthers and they managed just two points last time out against Cronulla Sharks.

The Eels, meanwhile, had a welcome boost to morale when they snapped their own four game losing run with victory over Wests Tigers last Monday.

This is a tough game to call and with so much on the line, we’re expecting a close, nervy affair. That makes a bet on under 39.5 points look like good value at $1.95 with Bet365.

Cronulla Sharks v Gold Coast Titans

Cronulla Sharks had a stuttering start to their season but they’ve enhanced their position as genuine outsiders for end-of-season honours with recent performances.

Incredibly, the Sharks defence has not conceded a try in their last 169 minutes of football and that run can continue for a little while longer as they host Gold Coast Titans at Southern Cross Group Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Titans have had more than their fair share of injuries to deal with but even so, their performances have been hugely disappointing.

The Titans have some very talented attacking players but will they have any influence on Saturday’s game? It’s unlikely, so a bet on the Sharks -10 at $1.86 with Unibet looks a pretty safe option.

Wests Tigers v Canterbury Bulldogs

Things have picked up considerably for both Wests Tigers and Canterbury Bulldogs after very tricky starts to the season. There is still plenty of room for improvement for both sides but we should be in for a more open match than we would had the two met in the earlier stages of the campaign.

The Tigers go into Saturday’s match as the underdogs but their chances cannot be completely written off. Not when they’ve got individuals as talented as fullback James Tedesco in their ranks.

An improving attacking force, the Tigers should help make this a very exciting match.

The Bulldogs will believe that their defence is up to the challenge posed by the Tigers but we think their attacking play will have to be just as strong as they cannot afford to simply rely on keeping their opposition at bay.

So, we recommend having a bet on over 42.5 points at $2.12 with Sportsbet.
