Royal Randwick our focus for this week’s racing tips.
Chipping Norton Stakes Days brings with it some exciting races and some high quality horses so let’s get stuck into the betting tips.
Chandon S Sweet Embrace Stakes (Race 4)
We have joint favourites for the Chandon S Sweet Embrace Stakes, a 1200m, Group 2 race for two-year-old fillies.
Satin Slipper ($4.80 with Unibet) and Fiesta ($5.00 with Palmerbet) are both being well backed and for good reason. Satin Slipper has never finished worse than second early on in her career while Fiesta broke her duck at Rosehill last time out.
However, Seabrook ($6.00 with Sportsbet) could finish in front of both favourites.
It’s been three weeks since Seabrook came agonisingly close to bagging the Blue Diamond Prelude. She recovered from a dodgy start very well that day to finish strongly. The extra trip should suit this impressive filly and she certainly looks the value bet.
Tab Chipping Norton Stakes (Race 6)
The Chipping Norton Stakes is the race of the day at Royal Randwick. It’s a Group 1, weight for age contest with a healthy prize fund of $600,000.
This may well be the most eagerly anticipated race in terms of its prestige but it doesn’t look much of a betting heat on paper. That’s because we have such a strong favourite in the shape of Winx that it’s almost not worth backing her.
The only thing going against Winx is that she’s making her comeback after an 18 week layoff. Everything else – the fact that she’s won 22 races in a row and 15 Group 1s already – suggests that Winx will have no trouble getting the win on Saturday.
You can back Winx if you have a fortune lying around that you don’t mind risking but it may be worth looking at options other than the $1.08 shot with William Hill.
An initial 12 potential rivals for Winx have been reduced to eight and of the lot of them it’s Prized Icon ($13 with Beteasy) who has the best chance of besting the favourite.
The four-year-old has turned in a string of impressive performances since a lengthy break without actually getting home in first. Chances are he’ll get beaten once again but second place is well in Prized Icon’s reach so we recommend backing him each-way.
James Boags Premium Surround Stakes (Race 7)
There’s half a million dollars on the line in the James Boags Premium Surround Stakes so plenty on the line for connections of the classy three-year-old fillies competing in this Group 1.
Although there’s no heavy odds-on shot at the head of the market we do have a clear favourite in the shape of Alizee who is $2.10 with Ladbrokes.
The Godolphin owned Alizee has been impressive enough in the relatively early stages of her career (including a Group 2 win at Royal Randwick last time out) but she does look a little short given the quality of opponents she has to beat on Saturday.
Many punters will be using the $11 that Centrebet are quoting on Shoals to try and win back the money they lost on her due to a very poor performance last time out. It sometimes pays to forgive young horses the odd flat performance but rather than backing Shoals, we like the look of Frolic at $10 with Centrebet.
The 1400m trip will suit Frolic down to a tee and she should get even better after a decent first performance in 46 weeks at Randwick last time out. $10 is a very good price for this filly with bags of potential.
