Morphettville Robert Sangster Stakes Day - Horse Racing Betting Tips
Morphettville is home to some top quality racing on Saturday, headlines by two Group 1 races.
With some excellent horses en route and some highly competitive races to enjoy, it should be a cracking day of action which will be all the better if we manage to pick out a few winners in our betting tips below.
Euclase Stakes (Race 4)
Let’s get our Morphettville betting tips started with the Group 2, Euclase Stakes. A healthy field of 11 are set to compete for this coveted 1200 meter contest but much of the early betting action has been on Nature Strip.
The three-year-old is available at a best price of $2.60 with Bet365 which shows that the market is willing to forgive his disappointing effort when resuming at Caulfield last time out.
He does have four wins to his name already but can you really say he’s beaten many top quality horses? Then there are the concerns about whether or not he has the finishing pace to make it into a genuine contender at this level.
Nature Strip could well prove us wrong but we think that it’s worth avoiding the favourite and siding with Viridine at $4.00 with Palmerbet.
Unlike the favourite, there are no concerns about Viridine’s ability to kick strongly for home. His issues have tended to come in the middle of the race but providing he gets a good ride and is in contention in the final 150 meters or so, this Godolphin owned colt could well get the job done.
The Australasian Oaks is typically a hotly contested race and that is certainly the case with the 2018 renewal. The bookies are having a very tough job separating a selection of top quality fillies for this Group 1 contest which is run over 2000m.
Darren Weir is usually going to be a player in these sort of Group 1 races and he has a string of three fillies capable of getting the job done in Sopressa, Pleasuring and Think Bleue.
It’s the former who is the tentative favourite with the bookies but it could pay to side with Pleasuring at a very tempting $15 with Unibet.
Pleasuring has proven form over a mile and is sure to be travelling strongly come the closing stages. This is a big step up in class to try and get it done in a Group 1 but her form is strong and deserves a crack at a race of this magnitude.
It may be best to back her each-way rather than for the straight out win but $15 is a big enough price to get a healthy return should Pleasuring only be able to grab a place.
Robert Sangster Stakes (Race 7)
The feature race of the day, the Robert Sangster Stakes is a Group 1 weight for age contest for fillies and mares run over 1200 meters. The $1 million prize fund has attracted some excellent horses to Morphettville on Saturday but who will join a list of previous winners that includes the legendary Black Caviar?
Viddora is the favourite for the Robert Sangster but her price has gone out a little since being drawn in barrier one. There’s no doubting her class or that she still has a chance of victory but that draw means Viddora will need luck to get the job done.
Many of Viddora’s rivals have been kept relatively busy in the lead up to Saturday’s race but Craig Williams has been sure to keep Super Cash nice and fresh. The five-year-old mare is at her best when coming back from a race – as she showed when winning last time out at Caulfield – and she has every chance of going in again.
Super Cash definitely looks worth a bet at a best price of $8.00 with Bet365.
