Flemington Racing Tips Betting Preview and Tips
We have a cracking card of racing ahead of us at Flemington on Saturday but there is one horse who everybody coming through the gates wants to grab a glimpse of.
The chance to see Winx do her thing is the highlight but there are many betting options available which is why we’ve picked out our choice of the best Flemington racing tips for you below.
Turnbull Stakes (Race 5)
This is the headline race of the day at Flemington. The Turnbull Stakes is a Group 1 contest that always attracts a strong field Flemington but there are no prizes for guessing who the star of the show is.
Winx’s return to Melbourne is enough to shift a load of tickets on its own even if the afternoon will be tinged with a certain amount of sadness as this could well be the last time that the hugely popular mare races at Flemington.
The chance to down a legend and a prize fund of $500,000 is enough to guarantee that Winx will need to beat some quality rivals to cross the $20 million mark in career earnings. However, other trainers have already admitted that they will need a lot of luck to stop the red hot favourite from winning and we’re fully expecting Winx to get the job done.
The best price you can get on Winx is the $1.16 that Palmerbet are quoting and while it’s not going to make you rich, she does look a racing certainty.
Another option is having an each-way bet on Youngstar at $23 with bet365. She’s looking good ahead of her Caulfield Cup challenge and while she’s not going to down Winx, Youngstar could well be the best of the rest.
Gilgai Stakes (Race 6)
The crowd may still be buzzing after seeing Winx strut her stuff but the Gilgai Stakes is more than just a supporting act. This Group 2 race, run over 1200 meters carries with it a generous prize fund of $200,000.
The Gilgai Stakes has also proven to be an important step on the path towards the Darley Classic later on in the spring. As you’d expect, then, some highly capable sprinters are in the field for Saturday’s renewal including the favourite in the betting, Osborne Bulls ($3.70 with Unibet).
Those who have backed Osborne Bulls are hopeful that he will return to his best when dropping back to 1200m after finding 1400m too stern a test last time out. We’re sure he’ll find life much more comfortable at the shorter trip but don’t think he’s the value at that price.
Instead, we’re going to recommend that you lend your support to Dothraki at $8.50 with bookmaker.com.au
Peter and Paul Snowden’s eight-year-old showed he can still hack the pace of these sprints by winning the Bobbie Lewis Quality last time out at $14. Crucially, Dothraki also has a very strong record down Flemington’s ‘Straight Six’ and it’s that experience that makes him so appealing in the betting.
Blazer Stakes (Race 9)
The meeting at Flemington ends with a strong looking renewal of the Group 2 Blazer Stakes. The field making their way to Melbourne is doubtless a very competitive but we think picking the winner of this one could be as easy as backing the favourite, Savatiano.
This impressive mare was a very good winner of the Mona Lisa at the end of August and was a bit of a victim of tactics when finishing second at Newcastle last time out. With pace around her at Flemington, things should pan out better for the four-year-old on Saturday so we recommend betting on her at $4.00 with Neds.
