Doomben 10,00 Day Betting Tips

Published: 10.05.2018

The Brisbane Racing Carnival is the pick of the action for this weekend’s racing. A good crowd is expected at Doomben with a talented string of horses set to do battle on testing ground.

We’ve gone through the three biggest races of the day and picked out our best bets from each of them so let’s hope we can secure some profit from the bookies.

Champagne Classic (Race 5)

We begin our betting tips with the Group 2, Champagne Classic. It may play a supporting role to the Doomben 10,000 but this prestigious race really fires the starting pistol on the top quality action at the Brisbane Racing Carnival.

Dynamited goes into the Champagne Classic as the favourite across the board with the bookies. There is no doubt that the gelding is one of the leading contenders and that you can consider anything around $4.00 as decent value. That said, we’re that little bit keener on the chances of Sizzling Belle at $4.60 with Palmerbet.

Nick Olive looked to have a good thing when Sizzling Belle kicked off 2018 with three wins in a row. Second place in a Group 3 contest at Canberra convinced her owners that a crack at the Golden Slipper was worthwhile but Sizzling Belle just couldn’t hack it against that standard of opponent as was expected.

Still, missteps are to be expected for juveniles and she should be much more competitive at Group 2 level. The heavy ground has kept Sizzling Belle’s price tempting enough for a straight win bet.

The Roses (Race 7)

There is $175,000 on the line in the Roses, a Group 2 contest for three-year-old fillies. That healthy prize fund has ensured that some quality horses are in the field for Doomben’s seventh race on Saturday and punters have a tricky task ahead of them to pick apart the main contenders.

For our part, we think that the market has called it correctly and that the winner will be one of Torvill, Youngstar or Another Dollar. Youngstar arguably has the best draw of the three but it’s Another Dollar who offers the most appeal at $6.50 with Bet365.

The Chris Waller trained filly was beaten by Torvill when the two met at Doomben at the end of April but she has every chance of reversing that form.

Take nothing away from the way that Torvill won the Bracelet. It’s just that the battling performance of Another Dollar really caught the eye and suggests that she will get even better for the step up from a mile to 2000m.

Punters are largely keeping faith with Torvill despite a wide barrier draw but we think it could pay to take the slightly bigger risk of siding with Another Dollar.

Doomben 10,000 (Race 8)

Saturday’s feature race is undoubtedly the Group 1, Doomben 10,000. The early betting for this 1200m contest has all been focused around one horse, Redzel.

The five-year-old gelding has amassed the best part of $9 million in a career that has included plenty of success at Group 1 level. His last competitive appearance ended in defeat in the TJ Smith Stakes but the signs were encouraging at an open trial at the start of the month on ground slightly heavier than that which is expected at Doomben.

Redzel has his doubters but he won this race last year and looks a good price to repeat the trick at $2.30 with Unibet. It could, however, be worth supplementing that bet with an each-way play on Spieth at $21 with Bet365.

The five-year-old has been very disappointing but was looked much better when finishing just behind Redzel in that Randwick trial and might just find something for a new trainer.
