Australian Saturday Racing Betting Offers and Tips – 15th July 2017
As ever we’ve got some quality racing to enjoy this weekend. There are big races all over Australia and plenty of chances to win at the bookies.
So, let’s get straight into the action with our quick betting previews from the pick of Saturday’s action.
Queensland Cup – Sunshine Coast (Race 7)
A decent card at Sunshine Coast on Saturday is headlined by the Queensland Cup. Run over 3200 meters (the same distance as the Melbourne Cup) this Listed race is one for true stayers and we’ve got some very good ones in the field for this year’s renewal.
With 16 horses competing over a long trip, this is far from an easy race to call but the bookies clearly fancy the chances of My Diamantine and Richard Of Yorke who are the joint favourites in the early betting.
Those two certainly have their chances but this is a race where it often pays to take a bit of a chance at longer odds.
In that regard, it’s hard to look past the chances of Paragon who is a best price of $18 with William Hill. Trainer John Sargent believes that his charge’s improvement will continue and that he’s got a real chance of winning his second race at 3200 meters.
Winter Stakes – Rosehill (Race 7)
A healthy prize fund of $148,500 has been put up for this year’s Winter Stakes at Rosehill and the course has been rewarded with what looks like a cracking renewal.
The Winter Stakes is run over 1400 meters, which requires a little more stamina than an out-and-out sprint. The distance also means that a more tactical approach to the race can pay dividends so there’s plenty for trainers and jockeys to bear in mind.
Peter and Paul Snowden are certainly thinking their way through the Winter Stakes ahead of the race. On paper, their best looking shot for glory is Gold Symphony who is among the early favourites.
However, Peter Snowden’s been talking up the chances of Extensible who has benefitted from a very favourable draw from barrier two.
Recent results are nothing special but that means she’s carrying just 53kg and now that her luck has turned with her barrier draw, she could do the business at $7.50 with Luxbet.
Sir John Monash Stakes – Caulfield (Race 7)
Blink and you’ll miss the last of our previews for the weekend. The Sir John Monash Stakes is a genuine sprint that always catches the attention but the presence of Chocolate Holic who is making the trip east from Perth has added an extra something special into the mix.
The four-year-old has an awesome record with seven wins from his 11 starts and he may be about to get even better now that he’s been sent to Darren Weir’s stable.
Chocolate Holic’s fans will hope that Weir’s touch will turn a very good horse into one capable of winning at Group 1 level. That’s for the future but for now, he’s certainly got enough class to overcome the bookies’ favourite Supido and win the Sir John Monash Stakes at $5 with Ladbrokes.
The nature of this sprint means that it could pay to back more than one horse.
Supido will have plenty of supporters and for good reason but the $5.50 that Betstar are quoting on Lord Of The Sky’s chances represent very good value.
There’s no doubt that he’ll come out flying from barrier one but the question is whether the 2014 champion can hack the pace in the closing stages. An impressive recent trial win suggests he’s definitely got a chance.
