Richmond vs Melbourne - AFL Betting Tips 24-04-2019
Before the season began, the AFL would have expected the traditional Anzac Day Eve clash to be a top-of-the-table blockbuster. But with Richmond and Melbourne both a long way from top form, we instead get a do-or-die clash between 10th and 17th.
Richmond v Melbourne AFL Preview
Richmond have won their last two matches but they are still far from their 2017 and 2018 best. The good news from a Tiger perspective is they managed to show off their famous pressure football in the win over the Swans on Saturday. With Dustin Martin back in the side, the Tigers won the tackle count 71-56 and forced Sydney into turnovers at key moments.
If Richmond are yet to regain last year’s form, then Melbourne have been a shadow of the side that made the 2018 preliminary final. The Dees are second in the league for clearances and third for inside 50s, but they’ve had trouble converting near goal. On Saturday, the Dees let St Kilda move the ball from defence to attack far too easily. After leading late in the third-quarter, Melbourne conceded eight straight goals to lose what should have been a certain win.
Richmond v Melbourne Betting Tips
With both sides coming off a four-day break, the result of this match will depend heavily on which team recovers better. This is the fifth straight Anzac Day Eve match between these teams. The ledger is 2-2, with Richmond winning the last two by an average of five goals. The Dees should find some form at some stage, but it’s hard to see them beating Richmond on Wednesday night. MadBookie has the Tigers at -16.5 in spread betting.
Both Richmond and Melbourne played in low-scoring encounters last week, with the Tigers winning 89-67 and the Dees 95-55. In their last five meetings, each side has only passed 100 points once. Palmerbet is paying 2.06 for at least one of these sides to score less than 70.
