North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs AFL Betting Tips

Western Bulldogs may be officially the away team for their game against North Melbourne on Saturday but the match takes place in the familiar surroundings of the Etihad Stadium where both teams are co-tenants. Not only is this a local derby but it could offer a valuable insight into the finals. The two sides are joint on 52 points and occupy sixth and seventh on the AFL ladder respectively so could come up against each other again in just a couple of weeks’ time.

Kangaroos and Bulldogs may be next to each other in the ladder, with the same number of points and a faint hope of making the top four but they go into the game on the back of two very different results. North Melbourne’s Round 22 victory over Freemantle was one of the best performances the team has put in recent seasons but that contrasts massively with the Bulldogs’ 77 point loss at the hands of the West Coast Eagles.

Before that defeat the Bulldogs were one of the AFl’s in-from sides. Eight victories in a row including four incredible performances at the end of that run dragged the dogs up to the top eight and a return to that sort of football will see them run Melbourne close.

Forwards Jake Stringer and Stewart Crameri are the danger men for the away side but North Melbourne’s chances of success hinge not on stopping those two but the very talented midfield who quickly look to get the ball up the pitch to the forwards. The midfield battle was perhaps the most important aspect of the Kangaroos’ win over Fremantle, if the players in the middle put in a shift in Round 22 like they did in Round 21, they’ll stand themselves in good stead. That is even truer given it was the midfield that misfired for the Bulldogs last time out.

This should be a very close encounter but we recommend backing the bookies’ favourites North Melbourne at 1.7 with CrownBet. As well as their dominance in the midfield the Kangas have won their last four games against the Bulldogs so look to have their rival’s number.

North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs are two of the highest scoring teams in the AFL this season. They both rely more on their ability to score points than keeping them out at the other end. Both teams will be going all out to secure any chance they’ve got of making the top four and failing that they’ll want to send a strong message to a potential finals opponent. Unibet are offering 1.9 that there will be over 191.5 points in the match, a tally that looks very possible.

If you feel, like we do, that this will be a great match between two well matched teams, have a look at the tri bet market which offers some very decent odds. You can have a bet on either team to win the game by a margin of no more than 15.5 points at 2.65 with Luxbet.
