Fremantle Dockers v Sydney Swans AFL Betting Tips

With the minor premiership secured, the Fremantle Dockers’ search for their first premiership success begins in earnest with a game against the Sydney Swans at Domain Stadium on Saturday. The Swans managed to finish fourth in the AFL ladder but they travel to Perth desperately light with injury having ravaged the team.

We all know that anything can happen come the finals but the bookies are all clear in how they see this game, a win for Freo. The Dockers are a top price off 1.35 with Bet365 to win with the Swans seen as real underdogs at 3.5 with Sportsbet to make that Premliminary Final spot their own.

Although the bookies have the Dockers as the clear favourites there are reasons to think that the match will be closer than the odds suggest. Both these teams know what it takes to reach the Grand Final with the Swans losing out to Hawthorn last season and the Dockers losing to the same opposition the year before. They’ve also both had fairly similar seasons. Some very impressive football has surrounded some much poorer spells of form. Freo were the best collective for most of the season but their form has tailed off significantly while the Swan’s slump came about halfway through. The Dockers and Swans also have similar strengths as both teams rely heavily on their strong midfield.

In the final analysis though we agree with Freo’s price. The key battle ground will be in the middle of the park and while the Swans will have to make do without some of their best midfielders, the Dockers had the luxury of resting a whole host of their stars so that they are fresh, fit and healthy for the biggest game of their season so far.

The big misses for the Swans are key men Lance Franklin, Kieren Jack, Luke Parker and Nick Smith. That’s a whole lot of talent to be left on the side-lines especially when you consider Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy and Michael Walters arrive in good form and top condition. That makes the Dockers the only side to really consider betting on.
These two last met back in Round 4 in a game which was also held at Domain Stadium. The Dockers were clearly fired up in that early season encounter as they raced to a 48-point lead by the halftime break. Swans made inroads to that lead the in second half but ultimately lost out by 14 points. Although the Swans will put out a weaker side – on paper at least – we fancy them to keep that deficit down on Saturday. So have a bet on the Sydney Swans to win the game with a +19.5 handicap applied at 1.92 with Bet365.

The second game of the finals series may look a tad one sided from a betting perspective but we expect it to be tight and nervy until the end. Hopefully by following our betting advice you can secure some nice profit from the game as well as being entertained by the action.
