There’s a packed schedule of fixtures ahead of us this weekend with Round 18 of the AFL.

Friday night sees the two top teams go up against one another at the Adelaide Oval but whichever of the Adelaide Crows or Geelong Cats end up on top of the ladder they’ve got plenty of competition below them as we move ever closer to the finals.

With so much still to play for we’ve picked out our selection of the best bets from the weekend’s action with our quick AFL Round 18 previews.

Melbourne v Port Adelaide

As it stands, both Melbourne and Port Adelaide are in the top eight but it’s the Power who will be feeling the more confident of the two.

Port Adelaide have won their last two matches ahead of Saturday’s show down at the MCG while the Demons have been struggling to cope with injuries and have dropped two of their last three matches.

Melbourne head coach, Simon Goodwin, hopes to welcome back both Dom Tyson and Jack Watts on Saturday. There will be no time for those two to get up to full speed as the confident Port Adelaide look to beat Melbourne for the fifth time in six meetings.

The Power are probably running out of time to put pressure on the top two but they should be able to strengthen their position in the top four by winning at a best price of $1.67 with Unibet.

Sydney Swans v St Kilda

Sydney Swans and St Kilda may both be on 36 points but while the Swans occupy one of the top eight places, the Saints are good for only ninth after a Round 17 defeat to the Essendon Bombers.

Last weekend’s defeat laid bare the biggest problem that St Kilda have had this season. They are far too inconsistent.

Just one round before, the Saints looked like a side capable of going all the way in the finals series when they smashed Richmond but they were never at the races against the Bombers.

Saturday’s match at the SCG is likely to be a tough watch for Saints fans hopeful that their side can put the disappointment of last weekend behind them. Their team has not beaten the Swans for five years and they were humbled 118 points to 68 when the two met back in Round 7.

GWS Giants ended a run of five straight wins for the Swans last weekend but John Longmire’s men have what it takes to bounce back in style.

So, have a bet on Sydney Swans to win with a handicap of 28.5 points at $1.91 with Palmerbet.

Richmond v GWS Giants

Sunday’s most important match comes at the MCG where Richmond take on GWS Giants.

For the Tigers, the game could prove to be pivotal. They may have got the win against the Brisbane Lions but their performance against the AFL’s lowest ranked team didn’t exactly inspire confidence in the idea that Richmond will be dangerous in the finals.

It’s not just the Tigers who have struggled for their best stuff. The Giants were pipped by Sydney Swans last week, a defeat which came on the back of consecutive draws.

Still, the Giants remain in third place and will fancy their chances of playing their way into form before the finals.

With Richmond failing at just the wrong time, Greater Western Sydney should be able to take full advantage by winning at odds of $1.68 with Bet365.
