Australian Football League Round 11 Betting Tips
This AFL season continues to be one of the most entertaining and unpredictable in recent years. The bookies’ odds have been overturned time and time again and there may be more of the same this weekend.
So, we’ve picked out the best bets from our choice of the best three matches of the weekend which will hopefully provide some profit for the start of the new week.
Geelong v Adelaide
The Adelaide Crows needed a big response after blowing their unbeaten record by losing consecutive games and that’s what they got.
After beating the Brisbane Lions by 80 points, Don Pyke’s men pummelled the Dockers by 100 points last time out. If they can pick up another big win this weekend when they take on Geelong at Simonds Stadium we can safely put those back to back losses down as a blip.
The Cats also returned from a tricky few weeks with two wins in the last fortnight. They’re not quite in touching distance of the Crows but a couple more wins could see them leap to the top of the ladder.
The bookies have the Crows down as the slight favourites but we think there’s a better way to go. Given the importance of a win to both teams against a probable finals rival, we’re expecting a thrilling game. So, take the $2.40 that Bet365 are offering on over 205.5 points.
Greater Western Sydney v Essendon
Greater Western Sydney are one of two teams level at the top of the AFL Ladder on 32 points. The Giants improved their record to 8-2 with their first ever win over West Coast last weekend but will be force to work very hard if they are to get the better of Essendon.
It’s not that the Bombers are particularly threatening. Their 5-5 record leaves them 11 in the ladder and they lost pretty comfortably against Richmond last time out. It’s more that the effects of travelling and tough recent matches is taking its toll on the GWS squad.
Head coach, Leon Cameron, has done a great job to secure consistently strong performances given the number of players he’s got missing through injury and there’s been little time for recovery this week after their trip to Perth.
The Giants will be very disappointed not to secure the win and they are the clear favourites with the bookies. However, Essendon have enough quality in attacking positions to make this closer than the odds suggest.
Therefore, we suggest backing Essendon +23.5 points at $2.14 with Unibet.
Freemantle v Collingwood
As the old saying goes, when you fall off the bike the best thing to do is get right back on. That rings true for the Dockers as they prepare to take on Collingwood at Domain Stadium.
There is no such thing as a good 100 point defeat but some are worse than others. Freo’s humbling at the hands of Adelaide last weekend was certainly a bad one as it has the potential to undo all of the good work that the team had put in, in the weeks before.
The task now for Freemantle is to ensure that they don’t allow heads to drop or else they could find themselves dropping back down the ladder at an alarming rate.
By contrast, the task for Collingwood is to build on their recent good run of form and strengthen their chances of a top eight finish.
When you compare the two teams, it seems as though the key battle for this one will be in midfield. In that respect, it doesn’t look great for the Dockers and makes us think that Collingwood are overpriced at $2.05 with Palmerbet.
