AFL Round 23 Betting Tips
There is just one more week left of the home-and-away season left. There are still a few important things to sort out in Round 23 before the playoffs get underway though.
So, in our AFL Round 23 betting tips we’ve focussed on the matches where there is still something on the line to hopefully provide some profit before September’s nerve shredding action begins.
Port Adelaide v Essendon
This could well be it for Port Adelaide. Technically, the Power still have one more shot at extending their season into September but in reality they’ve almost certainly left it too late such is the strength of Geelong’s position ahead of their final match against Gold Coast.
You’d think that the Power would still want to go out on a high against Essendon at the Adelaide Oval but we’re talking about a team who have thrown away their chances of playing in the finals by losing five of their last six matches.
The Bombers are also going to come up short in the quest for the finals but they have shown the sort of fighting spirit that’s been lacking in their opponents.
Richmond found out just how committed this Essendon outfit remains when they were pushed hard at the MCG. Another committed performance from the Bombers could see them win at $2.35 with Betstar and see the Power get the end to the season they probably deserve.
Geelong Cats v Gold Coast Suns
Geelong Cats had reason to worry about their finals participation at times during the season but they always knew that a relatively easy end to the home-and-away season was likely to help.
So it has proven to be as the Cats strolled to success against Fremantle last week and are the firmest of favourites to ensure their place in the finals against the Gold Coast Suns.
There is no point in backing the Cats to win at a general $1.02 but there is another, more tempting betting option.
The Suns have known for a long time that they were not going to make it to the finals. That does not mean there is nothing to play for though. Many of the Suns players know that an impressive performance in this final match could secure them a contract for next season.
We’ve seen teams towards the bottom of the AFL ladder turn in some eye catching performances at the end of the season before and we’re expecting something similar at GMHBA Stadium.
That’s not to say that the Cats won’t win, just that the Suns are surely good value to beat the line of 75.5 with Neds at $1.92.
Sydney Swans v Hawthorn
We end our betting tips for the home-and-away season with a cracking match between two big rivals at the SCG.
There’s more than just pride on the line when the Sydney Swans take on the Hawthorn Hawks. The two teams are joint on 56 points with just percentage keeping Hawthorn inside the top four.
The winner of this match will get the extra insurance that comes with a top four finish. The size of the prize is sure to bring out the best of the top quality players available to both coaches and we think they’ll help to provide an excellent finish to this match.
The Swans are the favourites with the bookies but this looks to close to call. Therefore, our best betting tip is on over 139.5 points at $1.90 with Unibet.
