AFL Round 21 Betting Offers and Tips – 11th August 2017
AFL Round 23 Betting Offers and Tips
It’s the final round of fixtures of the regular AFL season this weekend. There is still plenty to play for as we’re not yet sure who will win the minor premiership or exactly which eight teams will take place in the finals.
To capitalise on the action, we’ve picked out three of the most interesting games of Round 23 to bring you a betting tip from each in our quick AFL previews.
Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs
Last weekend was all set to be an historic one for the Western Bulldogs. There was a great fuss made as the Doggies played their first match at Mars Stadium but the team fluffed their lines on the pitch, losing by 15 points to Port Adelaide.
There are now no more second chances. Defeat at Etihad Stadium will spell the end for their chances of defending the premiership.
With Hawthorn already out of the running for the finals, you may think that the Bulldogs will have all the motivation. But that’s not quite the case.
Luke Hodge, a Hawks legend who has played over 300 times for the club, is retiring at the end of the summer and will be saying goodbye to the fans on Friday night.
This is going to be an emotional night for Hawthorn who requested that the game would be played on Friday night and at Etihad Stadium. Those who will remain at the club next season will also be looking to prove they’ve got the quality for a better campaign next year and Hawthorn should get the win at $2.10 with Luxbet.
Essendon v Fremantle
It has been a very tough season for North Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions but they should take heart that things can change quickly.
Essendon finished bottom of the AFL ladder last season but are now just one win away from confirming their place in the finals.
The Bombers have been far from perfect this year but their improvement has largely come thanks to some great attacking play. They are the fourth highest points scorers in the AFL while their opponents, the Fremantle Dockers, rank 18th.
The Dockers’ own chances of playing in September ended a long time ago but that doesn’t mean their fans aren’t upset with such a shocking end to the season. It’s now just two wins in 10 games and the bookies don’t expect Ross Lyon’s men to turn it around.
The price you’ll get on Essendon to win is the $1.13 that Sportsbet are quoting so you’ll have to go to the handicap markets to create some value from this game.
Essendon’s fans will head to Etihad Stadium in high spirits and they will leave even happier. So, take the $2.14 that Unibet are quoting on Essendon -49.5 points.
West Coast v Adelaide
There are always some painful goodbyes at this stage of the season. We’ve already spoken about players leaving the Hawthorn Hawks but it’s a stadium that we’re waving goodbye to on Sunday when Domain Stadium hosts its last ever AFL game.
There will already be a slightly strange atmosphere in Perth and that’s before you factor in the scenario in the AFL ladder.
Depending on the outcome of Geelong versus Greater Western Sydney, Adelaide will know whether they’ve won the minor premiership before their game against West Coast even begins.
The Eagles could also be assured of their fate. Adam Simpson’s men are relying on other results but if things fall their way, they can still book their place in the finals with a win over the Crows.
Chances are that West Coast will be disappointed by the time the game begins but either way, this Adelaide team wants to finish on a high before the qualifying final in a couple of weeks.
The Crows come off a three point defeat against the Swansea Swans last weekend but we think they’ll bounce back so bet on Adelaide to win with a -10.5 point handicap at $1.91 with Centrebet.
