AFL Round 22 Betting Tips

Published: 15.08.2018

This incredible AFL season keeps on coming up with the goods.

Aside from the top two – which appears to be a shootout between Richmond and West Coast – the rest of the playoffs picture could hardly be any less settled.

In our AFL Round 22 betting tips we’ve previewed from three matches which could well prove to be pivotal in deciding who keeps their season going into September.

Collingwood v Port Adelaide

Are the Port Adelaide players feeling sorry for themselves?

After losing Showdown 45 in controversial circumstances the Power needed to show they have the stomach for the fight. Instead, they went down to another narrow defeat in Round 22 against the West Coast Eagles.

That makes it four defeats in five for Port who are hanging onto eighth place by just one game.

It goes without saying that they must bounce back and fast. To do so, Port Adelaide must take heart from a run of four straight wins against the Pies which includes two wins at the MCG.

However, the Pies are also fighting for their future. It would take a very bad couple of weeks for Nathan Buckley’s men to drop out of the finals picture but they’re very much targeting the top four.

The Power will hope to utilise their strength in midfield to turn the tide of this game but it’s one man, Jordan de Goey, who could make all the difference. He returned to action for Collingwood by kicking four goals in last week’s win over the Lions and we expect him to be on the winning side again.

We’re predicting another narrow defeat for the Power so bet on Collingwood to win by 1-39 points at $2.00 with TopBetta.

GWS Giants v Sydney Swans

Spotless Stadium is the host for what could be the most thrilling Sydney Derby for a long time.

The Swans have gone off the boil recently but got back to something like the form that has the other finals competitors worries in back to back wins over Collingwood and Melbourne.

If the Swans can keep key players fit and in form they’ll believe they have a real chance of making it all the way to the Grand Final, especially if they can crash the top four party.

Injuries are the big concern for GWS also. Each week brings seems to bring a new blow to the Giants but they keep on moving forwards.

GWS have won five in a row and nine of their last 10 but still need more wins to maintain a top four spot. If they are to win the Sydney Derby we think it’ll only be by a small margin so recommend betting on Sydney Swans +6.5 points at $1.91 with Bet365.

West Coast Eagles v Melbourne

West Coast Eagles have two games to confirm their place in the top two of the AFL ladder but Adam Simpson is very keen to wrap it up this weekend against Melbourne.

Simpson knows that the Demons will be no pushovers at Optus Stadium but would love the chance for his players to take their foot off the peddle in their end of season clash with the Brisbane Lions.

Melbourne cannot afford anything other than a fully committed performance on Sunday. If other results go against them, the Demons could find themselves outside of the finals places come the end of this weekend’s action.

Simon Goodwin is feeling the pressure but he is a positive young coach who believes he can get the best out of his players. We’re not sure that will result in a Melbourne win but think they’ll play their part in a thriller so bet on over 169.5 points at $1.85 with bookmaker.com.au.
