AFL Round 21 Betting Tips
The Richmond Tigers on 56 points are the only team who can start preparing for the Finals Series. The West Coast Eagles follow six points behind but the next eight teams on the ladder are separated by just six points.
Many of this weekend’s games will feel like finals and with so much opportunity ahead we’ve picked out the most tempting options in our AFL Round 21 betting tips.
Hawthorn v Geelong Cats Tips
AFL regular season games don’t get much bigger than this. Hawthorn and the Geelong Cats have one of the fiercest rivalries in footy and it’s all on the line when they meet at the MCG on Saturday.
If both teams go into the match with the right outlook they’ll be thinking of the potential spoils – a place in the finals almost certainly awaits Saturday’s winners – but there’s a danger that the players will, instead, let the pressure of missing out affect their performance.
That pressure wasn’t there when these two met in a thriller in Round 2. Having fought back from a slow start, the Cats were devastated to eventually lose by just one point but that unfortunately set the tone for much of their season.
Mistakes and bad fortune have cost the Cats multiple times already and although they’re the favourites with the bookies, we think events may conspire against them again.
The Hawks have won four of their last five, are pushing hard for a place in the Top 4 and look overpriced to us at $2.20 with Ladbrokes.
Port Adelaide v West Coast Eagles Tips
You only had to take one look at the Port Adelaide players to see how devastated they were at the end of last weekend’s derby defeat against Adelaide.
The Power will be upset with themselves for throwing a lead away but they’ll also be smarting after the controversial end to Showdown 45. Ken Hinkley went as far as to say the AFL should be embarrassed with the decision to award the Crows a goal when it appeared the ball hit the post so Port will need no extra motivation for Saturday’s clash with West Coast Eagles.
The Eagles need two more wins to secure second place but they face a tough task at the Adelaide Oval.
The Power must be on top of their game in the midfield but we don’t think that will be a problem given that their appearance in the finals potentially rests on this game. Therefore, we’re adding a bet on Port Adelaide to win by 1-39 points to our AFL Round 21 betting tips at $2.06 with Palmerbet.
Melbourne v Sydney Swans Tips
Melbourne made it four wins from five when they batted the Suns away 143-47. That’s taken the Demons to fourth in the ladder thanks to an percentage which is second only to Richmond and that is a position that will feel pretty secure to them.
The Sydney Swans are anything but secure as they are inside the Top 8 by just eight points. The bookies don’t believe that position is going to get any more secure as the Dees are the clear favourites to win Sunday’s clash at the MGC.
The Swans will be fighting hard to maintain their position but you get the feeling this is a must-win for Melbourne given they have the Eagles and GWS still to come.
We think the Demons will get that win but not by a big margin. Therefore, the Sydney +22.5 points looks a fair price at $1.91 with Unibet.
