AFL Round 2 Betting Tips – 30th March 2017
There were some big shocks in the first round of the new AFL season. While some teams looked undercooked, others had obviously put in the hard yards in the post-season and came out of the traps flying.
If last weekend is anything to go by, we should be in line for some cracking fixtures in Round 2. So, we’ve gone through the action to pick out our three best bets in our quick previews below.
Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans
We begin our tips with the replay of last year’s Grand Final.
Western Bulldogs kicked off their season with a rather scrappy win over Collingwood. Luke Beveridge will be expecting a better performance from his players on Friday but a win’s a win.
The Swans, meanwhile, completely messed up what looked like a pretty easy home game to kick their season off with a surprise loss against Port Adelaide. That defeat and some key injuries leave the Swans with it all to do at Etihad Stadium.
The Swans will surely improve as the season goes on but for now it’s the Bulldogs who are best placed to kick on from last year. Beveridge’s men have a great opportunity to rub salt in the Swans’ wounds and should do so. So, back them with a -10.5 handicap at $1.91 with Bet365.
Hawthorn v Adelaide
Both Hawthorn ($15) and Adelaide ($9) are ranked as genuine outsiders for the Grand Final this season and they have a chance to prove their credentials when they meet at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks’ odds of glory may have gone out following their defeat against Essendon last weekend but those sorts of results early on make it plain to coaches and players just what needs to be improved. For the Hawks, that’s their ability to cope with the high ball in defence.
The question for Alastair Clarkson is whether he can sort that out before Saturday’s game. Not only are Adelaide tactically adept enough to exploit their opponent’s weakness but they’ve got some highly talented players up forward who just happen to be very tall.
Hawthorn may have to fight hard just to keep pace with Adelaide which could result in an entertaining match. Therefore, a bet on over 207.5 points could pay out at $2.4 with BetEasy.
West Coast v St Kilda
West Coast Eagles are the shortest priced favourites of any team in the AFL this weekend. The Eagles got their season off to a cracking start with a win on the road against North Melbourne and are a best price of $1.17 with Bet365 to follow up with victory against St Kilda.
Few people believed that the Saints would be challenge the ladder leaders this season but their performance, especially in midfield, against Melbourne was particularly disappointing for their fans.
After losing five times outside of Victoria last season, the Saints are up against it for their trip to Domain Stadium. We’re predicting a thrashing and suggest backing West Coast -40.5 points at $2.08 with Unibet.
Western Bulldogs -10.5 points against Sydney Swans at $1.91 with Bet365
Over 207.5 points in Hawthorn v Adelaide at $2.4 with BetEasy
West Coast -40.5 points against St Kilda at $2.08 with Unibet
