AFL Round 19 2015 Betting Tips

It’s Round 19 in the AFL this weekend and we’ve got previews of the two biggest games for you. The first is a match which will have a major impact on the finals and the second is an all Melbourne affair between two of the biggest rivals in the AFL.

West Coast Eagles v Hawthorn

This is undoubtedly the standout game of Round 19. The West Coast Eagles, second in the ladder, host Hawthorn, currently just one place below in third. The outcome of the match will have significant ramifications for the finals. Should the Eagles win they will have all but guaranteed a spot in the top two which would give the two time defending premiership winners the Hawks a tougher finals route.

Neither the Eagles nor the Hawks were particularly predatory in Round 18. The Eagles were stunned to be held to a draw by the Suns who are languishing toward the bottom of the ladder while the Hawks fell to an 18 point defeat at the hands of Richmond.

Hawthorn has won each of the last four games against the Eagles but that could all change on Saturday evening. The Eagles have lost just one game at Domain Stadium all season and that home form could prove to be the difference. The home side are not fancied by the bookies but they’ve won three of the last four games between the two teams at Domain Stadium and with key forward Josh Kennedy in top form the Hawks face a big struggle.

Collingwood v Carlton

The biggest rivalry in the AFL has will be played out for the 251st time on Saturday as Collingwood and Carlton battle it out at the MCG. It has hardly been a vintage season for either side but the Magpies will be desperate to beat their old foes and keep their faint hopes of making the finals alive.

A Magpies win will end a six game losing streak that has seen them drop to 11th in the ladder. The Collingwood players and fans will be confident of ending that run however as it is just three months since the team smashed the Blues by a huge 75 point margin.

As for the Blues, it is hard to see much money being bet on them other than by the most blinkered fans. Bet365 have the Blues as the big outsiders at 5.0 but most of the money will come in for Collingwood with the top price available 1.24 at CrownBet.

That is a fair price given that the last five matches have ended in a Collingwood win but the team needs to start fast to get rid of the potential for a nervy finish.

Carlton comes into the game on the back of two painfully big losses so John Barker needs to deliver an inspiring team talk to the squad whohe is in temporary charge of. Carlton will look to make the most of the fact it is one of the best centre clearance teams in the league by making life tough for Collingwood but the Blues are likely to come up short.
