Western Bulldogs v Adelaide Crows Betting Preview and Bet Tips

Saturday evening’s AFL match between the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide Crows is shaping up to be the best game of the weekend. It is fourth place against seventh and both teams have a 4-2 win-loss record this season. The Bulldogs’ home advantage just about gives them the edge in the betting but you can find them both at odds-on, showing just how close this one is going to be.

Not only are these two going along nicely in the AFL so far but this is a real clash of styles. On the one hand you have the Western Bulldogs who have the very best current defensive record in the AFL. They will be confident about another strong showing in defence but the home team are sure to be very well stretched by the Adelaide Crows who are the competition’s highest scorers. That poses both head coaches with a tough challenge. Do they continue to play in their normal style or do they try to adapt their game for their oppositions?

For the Bulldogs, the choice is between trying to contain the Crows like they did last time out against North Melbourne or by trying to play with more attacking intent given that they were not good enough in front of goal to avoid defeat last time out. The Crows need to work out whether to use their strength in the middle to continue to build attacks or as more of a defensive tool to limit the Bulldogs’ attacking intentions. Whatever tactics the head coaches decide to go with footy fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of Jackson Macare and Lachie Hunter going up against Scott Thompson and Matt Crouch.

Have we mentioned that this is incredibly close? Good. In the end it should be the more assertive side that gets over the line. The Bulldogs have been excellent at times this season but last Friday’s loss against North Melbourne was a return to some of their worst traits. That will worry their fans as will the Adelaide Crows who will turn up to Etihad Stadium without any fear. At odds of 2.02 with Palmerbet, we think that the Crows are just about going to edge this one.

We don’t, however, think that the Crows are going to win by very much. That means it is possible to head to the handicap markets and hedge our bets somewhat. The Bulldogs will no doubt want to make this a bit of a slog in the middle and if they succeed it is going to take a battling performance from the Crows to get the job done. The Dogs are good at doing enough to stay in contention so bet on them to win with a +5.5 point handicap applied at odds of 1.6 with Luxbet.

Although we think that the Crows are going to try and be as proactive as possible, the Bulldogs will make scoring tough. This should be a fascinating encounter but it may not be the most free flowing, high scoring match of the weekend. So, take the 1.95 that Bet365 are offering on both teams not to score 81+ points.
