Melbourne Demons v Western Bulldogs Betting Preview and Bet Tips

We are being treated to some wonderful AFL matches this weekend and Melbourne Demons against the Western Bulldogs is one of the most mouth-watering of the lot. The match at the MCG pits two exciting sides together and although the Dogs are the favourites we are expecting a close run thing on Sunday afternoon.

If the Demons are to overcome their position as underdogs they will have to draw on all the confidence they gained last weekend. They absolutely hammered the Gold Coast Suns by 73 points in one of their best performances in recent years. That victory took them up to ninth in the AFL ladder whilst giving them a positive record for the season with four wins and three defeats. Against the Bulldogs they will need some big performances from their star players including Max Gawn who has been invaluable in the ruck.

The Western Bulldogs also travel to the MCG on the back of a Round 7 win. They overcame Adelaide in a really exciting match that had near constant action. Luke Beveridge’s men showed great heart to bounce back so quickly from a disappointing loss at the hands of North Melbourne and there is no question that they are going to be a really tough side to beat in the months to come.

The battle in the middle is going to be fascinating on Sunday. Jack Viney and Nathan Jones will be important players for the Demons but they will have their work cut out making the most of possession against the likes of Lachie Hunter and Matthew Boyd. The main question looks to be whether or not the Bulldogs will enjoy the extra space afforded to them at the MCG compared to the comparatively cramped Etihad Stadium.

Melbourne are going to have their day on multiple occasions this season but they really look to have their work cut out against the Bulldogs. The away side know just how important consistency is in the AFL and they will be doing all they can to ensure that they do not slip up after last weekend’s impressive performance. It is time for the Bulldogs to really show their mettle and at odds of 1.47 with Centrebet they are worthy favourites.

The Bulldogs are well fancied enough that for many people the question is not about whether they will win, it is about by how much they will win. To that end there are plenty of options available to you in the handicap market. We really like the look of the odds of 2.0 that Palmerbet are offering on the Western Bulldogs to win with a 15.5 handicap applied. They will be well tested but as the match goes on, the Doggies could start to stretch away.

As we’ve mentioned, the size of the pitch at the MCG could cause a slight concern for the Bulldogs, especially in the early stages. The Demons are going to have to make the most of their early advantage to have any chance of winning so it could well be worth betting on the Melbourne/Western Bulldogs selection in Sportbet’s half time/full time market at odds of 7.2.
