Australia v New Zealand, Third Test, Sydney Cricket Ground 03.01.20-08.01.20

Australia wrapped up the series against New Zealand in the second test of three with a rather crushing 247 run victory, setting up a bit of a dead rubber third test.

The hosts have been in devastating form the last couple of months and the whitewash almost looks inevitable.

The game gets underway on January 3 and they’re heavy 4/11 to win the match with bet365. It could still provide an interesting contest however, and you’ll find our full preview and all the odds right here.

Australia v New Zealand Betting Tips & Predictions

Such has been the form of Australia its very difficult to see the tourists get anything from this game. They’re rank 8/1 outsiders and it would be a shock, even with the series wrapped up, if Australia were to relent.

That could be made worse by New Zealand having to play without star men Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls who have missed training through illness.

Australia on the other hand may choose to rest some of their stars ahead of the One Day series. The likes of David Warner and Travis Head have been batting well over the summer, with the former priced at 11/10 to hit a first innings 50.

Australia v New Zealand, Third Test

He’s 3/1 to score a hundred in the first innings, a punt well worth taking as he looks to add more misery to a down and out New Zealand side.

Steve Smith hasn’t had his finest series but has still looked dangerous in patches. He’s 9/4 to be Australia’s top run scorer in the first innings with Ladbrokes, while Marcus Labuschagne may also be a worthy punt at 3/1.

In the wicket taking stakes, Mitchell Starc is 9/4 to be the hosts top bowler in the first innings, with Neil Wagner priced the same to be New Zealand’s top first innings bowler.

We expect another big win for the Australians, although do be aware that the game itself could be taken out of either side’s hands. The bushfires outside of Sydney are putting risk on the match, with the weekend forecast in particular potentially being a problem.

Cricket Australia and the ICC have already said they will take no risk and ensure both players and fans health will be taken into account, so that is something to be aware of.

Australia v New Zealand, Third Test

The Third Test marks a series to forget for New Zealand, particularly after such a solid display over England earlier in the summer.

It’s been a learning curve and one that highlights just how far ahead Australia are currently in terms of quality.

If the Australians don’t rest players ahead of the One Day series there will only be a similar result, especially if the tourists do miss out on Kane Williamson’s leadership due to illness.

It’s going to be another tough game for New Zealand in what could be very tough conditions should the game go ahead in Sydney.
