Australia v New Zealand, Second Test, MCG 26.12-30.12

Australia can wrap up the test series against New Zealand in the traditional Boxing Day year match after a dominant performance in the first test at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

The home side enjoyed a 296 run victory in the opener, with Marcus Labuschagne proving why he’s one of the best in the world right now, knocking 143 in the first innings and 50 in the second.

Australia go to the MCG favorites once again, with Ladbrokes pricing them a huge 3/10 and it’s difficult to see any other outcome with them looking almost unbeatable

Australia v New Zealand Betting Tips & Predictions

There’s little value in backing an Australia win as it stands. They’re heavy favorites, with New Zealand priced at 5/1.

We’d expect a good batting performance from the hosts once again, while Mitchell Starc is looking incredibly dangerous picking up a nine-wicket haul in Perth.

He’s 9/4 to be Australia’s leading wicket-taker in the test and combining it with the To Win market couple be a tidy bet.

Labuschagne to score a half-century again will be heavily backed, while he’s also at 8/1 to pick up Man of the Match with Ladbrokes.

Of course, Steve Smith is a safe bet, although he failed to go beyond 50 in both innings, with the bowling of Neil Wagner undoing him on both occasions.

New Zealand will be looking to bounce back. They’re ranked second in the world in test cricket and in the likes of Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor and BJ Watling have plenty of talent with the bat.

Taylor looked assured in his 80 in the first innings of the first test but failed to reach three figures. He’s priced at 7/4 to score a first-innings 50, which could be worth a punt while the first innings 100 is 5/1.

It’s going to be a tough ask and New Zealand are going to have to show the sort of form they did against England just a few weeks ago if they’re going to challenge in Melbourne. Win and they’ll take it to a decider. Lose and the third test will seem a bit of a damp squib.
