Australia v New Zealand Betting Tips & Predictions

After a demolition job against Pakistan, in which David Warner announced his return to true elite level with a breathtaking 335 not out, the home side are heavy favourites, priced at 4/9 to win the first test and 2/7 to win the series.

Tim Paine’s men are full of confidence after a summer retaining the Ashes, and as they were then, the likes of Steve Smith, Marcus Labuschagne and bowler Pat Cummins will be key.

New Zealand have crafted perhaps one of their best ever test sides though and won’t make it easy. There were some fantastic innings played by Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Mitchell Santner and BJ Watling in their two test series against England, all of whom hit three figures.

BJ Watling’s 205 will have the Australians discussing how to get him out, but their fine form could be a real boost to the outfit priced at 3/1 with bet365.

Both teams have been piling on the runs in the last month, so the Total Runs market could be an interesting one, alongside the draw at 15/2. That will of course depend on the pitch and weather, however.

It’s going to be an interesting first test and it will likely come down to which of the form men will come up trumps. Steve Smith is favourite to top score for the Baggy Greens, but at 11/4 with Ladbrokes we like the look of David Warner.

Tom Latham at 7/2 looks good value for New Zealand’s top scorer, while he’s also at 11/2 to score a century in his first innings.

That would mean fending off Pat Cummins who’s had a magnificent 2019. You can back him to be the home side’s leading wicket taker at 5/2, the same price as Josh Hazlewood who’s also proved his worth this year.

It could well be a closer test than we think in Perth, but it is difficult to look past the Australians who simply have too many match winners in their side.
